1. Do you prefer your ice cream in a bowl or in a cone? Depends. I love waffle cones/bowls. But, don't always want to deal with the drippiness of a cone. Then I go with a bowl.

2. What three things do you love the smell of? Lilacs, spring/summer rain, my babies when they're clean

3. Giftcards or no? (In regards to gift giving...) Yes.

4. What sports did you play in high school if any and do you still play them? I was on the poms squad my senior year. I know some people don't consider that a sport, but it was an excellent aerobic workout on a regular basis! And, uh, no, I am not still doing anything of the sort. My poms days ended with high school graduation.

5. Were you in band in high school? What instrument did you play? No, but my freshman year I played violin in the orchestra. Sophomore through senior year I was in choir. I sang first soprano.

1. Do you think cursive writing is overrated? (Schools in Indiana have now voted to take teaching cursive writing out of their curriculum.) Um, no. Definitely not. I think it's horrible that schools are starting to take that out of the curriculum.

2. Do you still use a pocket calendar or notepad or do you keep your info on your smart phone? If we're talking about keeping track of appointments and stuff, I use Google Calendar.

3. What 3 things would you save if your house was burning down? (family & pets are already safe) My computer, our wedding album, and DH's computer (where most of the kids' pics are).

4. Country Mouse or City Mouse, err Person? Suburban mouse – er, person.

5. If you could pick ANY reality show to go on, which would you pick? Dancing with the Stars. (Does that count as reality TV?) I know I'm not a star, but ballroom dancing is so much fun!

It's that time again! :-)

1. Have you ever forgotten your child in a store or at school? No. Or maybe I should say not yet ...

2. Where did you go on your very first date? (Like...first first, not first with your spouse or current significant other!) I honestly don't remember. I remember my first date with Mr. Ham, but I don't remember my first first date.

3. What's your "silly" fear? (We're not talking water and heights.) I dunno. I'm not sure I have any that I'd consider "silly." I mean, fear is fear, and if you truly fear something, do you feel like it's "silly"? I don't. If you mean fears of which you're embarrassed, that's different, and I can elaborate. My fear of snakes is a true phobia. It's completely irrational, and quite extreme. Sometimes worms creep me out because of that. Also, I made Mr. Ham buy a garden hose in a color that wouldn't ever freak me out (like when I see it out of the corner of my eye).

4. Confrontation: do you cause it, deal with is as it comes, or run far far away? I sure hope I don't cause it. I try to avoid it, but if I HAVE to deal with it, then I will.

5. Wood floors or carpet? We have mostly carpet. Not by choice. The house came with them. We wanna rip some of them up, but that means we have to be willing to deal with whatever is underneath ...

Five Question Friday

It has been a VERY long time since I've participated in this one. I miss it, and am glad to be back to it.

1. Can you drive a stick shift? Umm ... I don't know. I know, I know, I should know. But, it's not that easy. My husband tried to teach me when we were in college. It went OK, but I had to drive myself somewhere alone before I was ready. Haven't driven stick since! LOL I'm guessing if I absolutely HAD to do it (like in an emergency or something), I probably could. Just pray there aren't any hills! ;-)

2. What are two foods you just can't eat? Tomatoes. They make me gag. I think it's a texture thing. And hot dogs. Heard too many horror stories about what ends up in them ...

3. Do you buy Girl Scout Cookies? What is your favorite kind? Yes, we do. Our oldest is in Brownies, so we kinda HAVE to! ;-) As for favorites, that's a tough choice. (And half the time no one knows which I mean because the different bakeries name them different things.) I love Thin Mints, Thanks-A-Lots, Caramel Delights ... I feel like I'm forgetting one, but I can't think of it at the moment. I'll tell you after I help sort cookies tomorrow!

4. How do you pamper yourself? I get an hour (sometimes hour-and-a-half) massage and a pedicure. I rarely do it, because it's so dang expensive. But, it's my favorite way to be pampered!

5. What is your nickname and how did you get it? I don't really have one. Never really have. "Heather" never really lent itself to nicknames. But, online I use ham1299 regularly.

1. How many pets do you have? Three: Two cats (Huckleberry and Zeus) and one dog (a beagle named Sawyer)


2. If you could switch places with anyone in the world for one day, who would it be? I honestly can't think of anyone. I like my life.


3. What is your favorite money saving tip? Using coupons can make a big difference.


4. What do you want your kids to be when they grow up? Something they enjoy – not enjoy but are passionate about. It makes a difference to love what you do. In addition to that, it's gotta pay the bills and keep them fed. ;-)


5. What is your favorite quote? I have a lot of them, really. One of my current favorites:

1. If you could go back to college would you change your major? Or, if you were to go to college right now...what major would you choose?

I'm not sure. I think I would. I'd major in something more marketable. Don't get me wrong. I'm proud of my English degree. I'm proud of what I've accomplished, but it's hard finding employment outside publishing and other related fields. Especially for someone like me – a reader, not a writer. What would I change it to? Music engineering.

2. What do you love most about your home?

Our laundry room is on the second floor just off our bathroom!

3. What types of books do you like to read (if you like to read at all)?

Do I like to read? Do birds have wings? Do ants love picnics? YES! I like to read – no, wait, I don't like to read. I LOVE to read! As for types of books, most fiction will do. No horror-type stuff, though. Lately I've been reading YA, fantasy, general fiction, Christian fiction. You can see my reviews and whatnot on my book blog.

4. What is the grossest thing you've ever eaten?

When I was a kid, I LOVED liver. LOVED it. I have no idea why. Once I learned more about anatomy, I stopped eating it! LOL

5. If you HAD to be a character on a TV show, whom would you be?

1. Is there something you've always wanted to try but just can't muster up the courage to actually do yet?

Sure. A lot of things, actually. I'm not kidding when I say I'm shy to a fault!

2. If you had $100 handed to you in cash without your significant other knowing about it, what would you spend it on?

A massage and pedicure. Either that or getting my hair done – cut, styled, AND colored.

3. What was your favorite piece of playground equipment as a child?

The tire swing.

4. Do you prefer a sweet or hearty breakfast?

If we're talking AT breakfast, then sweet. If we're saying breakfast for lunch/dinner, then a mix of both.

A neat-freak at heart, but a messy Bessy in practice. I USED to be a big-time stickler about keeping things clean. Then I had babies ...

1. If you could, would you go back to high school?

My gut reaction is an immediate "NO!"

2. If a genie appeared and granted you two wishes, what would they be? (And, no saying "more wishes".)

To have all of our debts instantly GONE – paid off or forgiven, I don't care, just GONE.
For me to be back at my before-the-first-pregnancy weight.

A white Pontiac Bonneville. I can't remember what year – around 1989, I think.

Yep.

Assuming we're not counting babysitting, I was a CSR (Customer Service Rep.) at Blockbuster Video.

It's that time again – a time I was sad to have missed last week!

1. Who would you want to play you in a movie of your life?

I would love to have Sandra Bullock play me. She's my favorite actress, and has been since Speed came out!

2. Did you ever go to summer camp?

Yes, a few times.

3. What sends you running and screaming in the other direction?

Snakes

4. What is something you do that drives your spouse nuts?

Umm ... I honestly don't know. I know there's something, but I don't know what it is. He's a suffer-in-silence type. Well, until he's reached the boiling point. By that point, it's usually something small that sets him off, and I've no idea where it all is coming from. And, of course, he's not a talker. So ...

5. What is currently your favorite song?

I can never pick a favorite song! Never! But, that's why I have my weekly Tune-In Tuesday meme! (And it took this post to make me realize that I forgot about it this week! I blame spring break and the busyness – yes, that is correct, "busyness" as opposed to "business" – that comes with  that comes with it. Oh, yeah, and the launch of my NEW book blog, Proud Book Nerd.

1. Did you pass your driver's test on the first try?

Yep.

2. What is your most embarrassing moment?

I try my hardest to forget such moments. So, I'm not going to share any.

3. What TV show would you like to be on- Oprah, Biggest Loser, or What Not to Wear?

Biggest Loser

4. Would you ever get plastic surgery and what kind?

I would love a tummy tuck (get rid of baby leftovers) and my boobs lifted (breastfeeding stole the perkiness) and maybe even reduced (they have NOT gone back to pre-pregnancy size, but have remained bigger).

5. What are your favorite jeans to wear?

I hate jeans. I live in yoga pants!

I'm back for more! :-) This is a fun meme for me. Once again, Friday Follow isn't happening. As before, I refuse to post someone else's sponsor's button on my blog. Frankly, while Friday Follow was fun, I think that's very presumptuous. I mean, really. The nerve! I'm all for getting a sponsor for it, but I draw the line at making posting the sponsor's button as part of the rules. So, from now on (unless the sponsorship thing changes, which I doubt), it's Five Question Friday only. :-)

Sorry for the mini-vent. Now that it's out of my system, on with the show – er, I mean post! ;-)

1. Have you ever had a celeb sighting?

Yep. When my husband and I were in college (at the University of Illinois), we once walked right past Roger Ebert on campus! We didn't realize it was him until we'd walked past, but it still was cool!

2. What temperature do you keep your house?
Depends. During the winter, 73 during the day and 71 at night. Summertime it's different, and I honestly can't remember offhand! LOL (It's programmed into our thermostat, but I obviously haven't run it in several months!)

3. Do you notice dust at other peoples homes?
I can't say that I do - I don't remember ever doing so.

4. What's the worst job you ever had?
Working at Fashion Bug.

5. What is your most sentimental possession?
Anything that belonged to my grandmother. I have a little container of potpourri that smells like I remember her smelling. That's probably it. When I come across it, I'll open it up and take a sniff. She's been gone for 20+ years now, so I'm VERY grateful that I can still smell it!

Five Question Friday

I've decided I really like this meme, and will try to do it regularly. I have opted not to do Friday Follow this week, because they're asking everyone to post their SPONSOR'S button this week, and I refuse to do that. I'm not posting someone else's sponsor's button on my blog - not makin' money for YOU. Nuh-uh! So, without further ado, I'll get into Five Question Friday.

1. How much time do you spend on the computer a day?

I plead the Fifth. Seriously. It's way too much, given that I make ZERO dollars during the time I spend online!

2. Will you pay for your children's college or raise them to pay for their own way?

A little bit of both. We have money put aside for each, but once that's gone, they are expected to take care of the rest. My husband and I truly believe that they will appreciate their education more if they take an active part in making it happen.

3. Have you ever been in a car accident?

Yep. Many times. At least once as a child, and two or three as an adult (driving).

4. What is your favorite book?

Hahahahahaha! This question is IMPOSSIBLE for me to answer. I LOVE to read. I am an avid reader. I couldn't possibly pick ONE favorite! That said, I am ADDICTED to the Riyria Revelations series by Michael J. Sullivan. Michael is an EXCELLENT storyteller, and these are well-crafted stories. It is a series of six, three of which have been published. The fourth, The Emerald Storm, is expected next month. As I said, I LOVE this series - LOVE it! In fact, I love it so much I've agreed to help (as a favor - not a paid gig) with copy editing, starting with Nyphron Rising (the third book in the series) and continuing through the rest of the series - if they'll have me! 

5. Do you make your bed everyday?

Define "making the bed" - seriously. I don't tuck in all the edges and make it look pristine, but I also don't leave it a mess. The sheets and blankets are straightened out and pulled up to the pillows. It's neat, but not pristine.

It's Five Question Friday time again! (Another one two weeks in a row? Wow. How is this happening?)

1. What's your guilty pleasure?

Hmm...that's a bit of a loaded question. Are we talking food? Activites? Something else? I'm gonna think on this one - and hopefully remember to come back to it so I can really answer it!

2. What is your favorite TV series?

I'm sorry, but this question implies that I have ONE favorite! So NOT the case! LOL My absolute FAVORITE shows (meaning ones I MAKE SURE to watch by making them a priority of sorts, as opposed to the shows I really like but never get around to actually watching them) are:

• Dexter ~ I cannot believe I'm saying that! PLEASE don't tell my hubby! I thought it was abhorrent when he started watching it (thanks to NetFlix) and openly showed my disgust. I have since been sucked in, and he's - graciously, I'm sure - rewatching the first two seasons so I can see them all, too! He knows I'm enjoying it - just don't tell him how much!
  
• 24 ~ Love, love, LOVE this show!
• Lost

There are plenty more that I REALLY like (Private Practice, The Good Wife, The Mentalist, The Forgotten), but have fallen so far behind that I think I've decided to let them go - at least for now. Perhaps with the help of NetFlix I can get caught up again sometime!

3. Can you speak any foreign languages?

Not really. I can speak a tiny bit of Spanish, but I'm nowhere near fluent - and likely couldn't carry on a conversation beyond "hello, how are you, my name is Heather" and the like!

4. How many pairs of shoes do you own?

I honestly don't know. I used to have a LOT of shoes, but having babies made it so some of those shoes no longer are wearable by me. I got rid of a TON of pairs that no longer fit - but just bought some new shoes last weekend. I'd say a dozen or so - but likely to get more as I rediscover my love for shoes!

5. What's your favorite kind of M&M's...peanut, almond, straight up regular, etc.?

Peanut, hands down!

Aren't I the Chatty Cathy today? LOL I just stumbled upon a few fun Friday-themed things and decided to go along. I find stuff like this fun, so I decided to play along. Plus, it makes up for the long stretches of silence I tend to have occasionally - right?

1. Do you sing karaoke? If so, what is your go to song?

No. I do not sing karaoke. I LOVE to sing, but I'm too self-conscious. I almost NEVER let anyone (other than my kids) hear me sing - not even my hubby.

2. What is your favorite coffee drink?

I don't drink coffee - ever. HATE it! I like to say that Dr Pepper is my coffee. That said, I LOVE a chai tea latte. My favorite is from Panera, but Starbuck's will do in a pinch!

3. If you could choose your own name, what would it be?

Ha! I honestly don't know. I know that growing up I always hated my name - HATED it. My biggest problem with it was that I couldn't shorten it. I had friends named Melissa who went by Missy; friends named Jennifer went by Jenny; guys named Andrew went by Andy ... I hated that Heather couldn't be shortened. But, I don't know that I'd change it at this point. I am Heather - don't know if I could be anything (anyone?) else!

4. Were you ever bullied?

Not really - at least no one ever threatened me. BUT, I was picked on a LOT in grade and middle school. A LOT. I hated it - and I pray my children never experience anything like it.

5. How often do you eat fast food?

Way too often. At least a couple of times per week - and that's on top of going out at sit-down places! But, I'm still losing weight, so I can't be doing too badly, right?
